Privacy Policy

Ripe Launcher (“Ripe”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is an Android home screen launcher application. This Privacy Policy explains how Ripe handles your information.

01 Information We Collect

a) On-device data (never leaves your device)

The app requests the following device permissions, all of which are optional and require your explicit consent. Data accessed through them is processed locally and is never transmitted to us:

• Location (approximate): Used solely to fetch weather data for the home screen weather widget. Your coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) to retrieve current conditions. We do not store or log your location.
• Calendar (read-only): Used solely to display upcoming events on the calendar widget. Calendar data is read locally and never leaves your device.
• Contacts (read-only): Used solely to display contact search results within the app. Contact data is read locally and never leaves your device.
• Phone state: Used solely to detect incoming calls for launcher behavior. Call data is never stored or transmitted.
• Make calls: Used solely to allow you to initiate phone calls directly from the launcher. No calls are made without your action.
• Notifications: Used solely to display notification badge counts on app icons and indicators in the hub strip. Notification content is read locally and never leaves your device.
• Set wallpaper: Used solely to allow you to change your device wallpaper from within the launcher settings.
• Internet: Used to fetch weather data, check for icon pack availability, and send the anonymous usage data described below.

b) Anonymous usage data (sent to our backend)

When anonymous usage sharing is enabled (on by default, and toggleable in Settings › Privacy), Ripe periodically sends the following anonymous, non-personal information to our backend:

• A random device identifier: a random ID generated on first launch. It is NOT your Android ID, advertising ID, phone number, or any hardware identifier. It cannot be traced back to you, and reinstalling or clearing app data generates a brand-new ID.
• App and device details: app version, Android version, device manufacturer and model, language/locale, and time zone.
• Coarse country: derived on our server from your IP address at the moment of the request (country only). We do not store your IP address.
• Feature usage: which launcher features you have enabled (such as the weather, calendar, or alarm widgets, label visibility, grid size, theme, and accent), and basic, non-identifying interaction events such as opening the app.

We do not collect your name, email, contacts, calendar contents, messages, notification contents, precise location, browsing history, or the list of apps installed on your device.

02 How We Use This Data

• Understand how many people use Ripe and which versions and devices are active, so we can prioritize fixes and compatibility.
• See which features are popular to guide what we build next.
• Deliver in-app announcements (update notes, tips, offers), including targeting a specific anonymous device or free/pro users, and measuring whether a message was seen, dismissed, or tapped.
• Manage access to the app and to Ripe Pro features.

We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not build personal profiles.

03 Third-Party Services and Sub-Processors

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): Receives your approximate latitude and longitude to return weather data. Refer to their privacy policy for how they handle location data.
• Google Play Services (Location): Used to obtain your device's approximate location for the weather widget. Google's privacy policy applies.
• Neon (neon.tech): Our backend database provider. The anonymous usage data above is stored in a Neon Postgres database on our behalf. Neon acts as a data processor under our instructions.
• Vercel (vercel.com): Hosts our backend API and processes requests (including the request IP, from which we derive coarse country) on our behalf.

Ripe does not integrate any advertising networks, third-party analytics SDKs, crash reporting services, or social media SDKs.

04 Data Storage and Retention

App preferences (layout, folders, widget settings, icon customizations, tabs) are stored locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences. Local backup is disabled (android:allowBackup="false").

Anonymous usage data is stored on our backend (Neon) only for as long as it is useful for the purposes above. Aggregate statistics may be kept indefinitely because they contain no identifiers. Turning off anonymous usage sharing signals our backend to stop retaining event history for your device.

05 Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your information, and we do not share personal information with third parties, because we do not collect any. Anonymous, aggregate statistics (such as total install counts) may be shared publicly.

06 Your Choices

You can turn anonymous usage sharing on or off at any time in Settings › Privacy (“Share anonymous usage data”). When off, Ripe stops sending all usage data and announcements, and sends a one-time signal asking our backend to stop retaining event history for your device.

07 Children's Privacy

Ripe does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The usage data we collect is anonymous and not directed at children.

08 Security

Data sent to our backend is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with our processor (Neon). Because the data is anonymous and contains no personal identifiers, the impact of any incident is minimal. On-device data remains under the protection of Android's built-in security model.

09 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
